Last time, I spoke about how doing workouts before a tournament is completely an individual thing. The pro that I am working with has had a great run of top finishes after doing morning workouts. Last Monday was the start of the Westchester Open and he had a 9:30 tee time so we did a 7:00am session.
This is a general overview of what we do before tournaments (in the gym):
-Foam Roll and Stick work
-Ankle, Thoracic and Hip mobility work
-Core Stability and Activation work
- Medicine Ball throws against a wall- 4 positions
-1 set of Keiser Cable Strength/Power work
-Stretching
He had an OK round of 74, certainly not what he was hoping for. Basically, he had a good round considering he hit 2 balls in the water!
Rounds 2 and 3 were played on Tuesday so we didn't work out since he was playing 36 holes that day and it has been really hot in NY.
Although the streak ended, we are sticking to the game plan, doing our Tournament Day workouts whenever he is playing. He really feels like he has much more control over the ball on days he works out.
Like I said last time, play around with this. Try some light exercises in the morning before you play and see how you do.
